SG in three arguments

The Supreme Court on Friday approved motions for the U.S. Solicitor General’s office to take part in three oral arguments during the week of April 21. The arguments will be divided in MetLife v. Glenn (06-923), set for argument on April 23; Meacham v. Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory (06-1505), also on April 23, and Engquist v . Oregon Department of Agriculture (07-474), on April 21. Justice Stephen G. Breyer is recused in the Meacham case.

MetLife deals with conflict of interest issues for ERISA plan administrators; Meacham, with employers’ legal defense against age discrimination claims; and Engquist, with class-of-one discrimination claims under equal protection analysis.

The Court will next issue orders shortly after 10 a.m. on Monday, April 14.
