• At the Washington Post (subscription required), Marisa Iati reports that a group of Catholic bishops in Texas have filed an amicus brief urging the Supreme Court to halt the execution of Victor Hugo Saldaño, who was resentenced after his initial sentence was “thrown out by the Supreme Court over a determination of racial bias.”
• At Reuters (via How Appealing), Alison Frankel reports that the Governor John Carney of Delaware has filed a petition asking the Supreme Court to weigh in on the state’s “practice of balancing judicial appointments among Democrats and Republicans,” struck down by a federal appeals court as a violation of the First Amendment.
• At ABC News (via How Appealing), Devin Dwyer reports that a number of high-profile grassroots campaigns have been announced to combat partisan gerrymandering in light of the Supreme Court’s recent ruling in Rucho v. Common Cause that the issue lies outside the reach of federal courts.
