Wednesday round-up

Briefly:

• Constitution Daily surveys the Supreme Court’s January argument calendar, which includes “several fresh cases, and a key postponed case, … with a voter registration suit from Ohio expected to get the most attention.”
• The editorial board of The New York Times, noting that Hidalgo v. Arizona, a cert petition challenging Arizona’s death-penalty scheme and the death penalty nationwide, is on the list for Friday’s conference, declares that “the justices have all the information they need right now to bring America in line with most of the rest of the world and end the death penalty for good.”
• At Reason’s Volokh Conspiracy blog, Orin Kerr looks at Byrd v. United States, a case the justices will consider next week that asks whether a driver has a reasonable expectation of privacy in a rental car when he is not listed as an authorized driver on the rental agreement.
