Our tremendous sponsor Bloomberg Law, which makes the blog’s work possible, has aggregated some essential coverage – all of which is worth revisiting – from Bloomberg Law, Bloomberg News, and BNA on different aspects of the major cases remaining this Term.
Greg Stohr of Bloomberg News has extensive coverage of Fisher v. University of Texas, the challenge to that university’s use of affirmative action in its undergraduate admissions process, including a report on the briefs filed by the university and its amici, a pre-argument overview of the issues involved in the case, and a look at the Chief Justice’s role in cases, like Fisher, involving race.
Bloomberg’s coverage of Hollingsworth v. Perry, the challenge to California’s Proposition 8, and United States v. Windsor, the challenge to the constitutionality of the federal Defense of Marriage Act, includes a Bloomberg View column by Cass Sunstein, who reviews some of the options available to the Court; a report on the March 26 argument in Hollingsworth from Greg Stohr; Tom Taylor’s report on the March 27 argument in Perry; and a “Practitioner Contribution” from Jason Steed and Rex Heinke, who discuss how married same-sex couples should be treated when they move to another state that refuses to recognize same-sex marriage.
In Shelby County v. Holder, the challenge to the constitutionality of Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act, coverage from Greg Stohr of Bloomberg News includes an overview of the case, a look back at the history of Shelby County, and a report on the oral argument. The editorial board of Bloomberg View also weighed in on the case, urging the Court to focus on the goal of “protecting the right to vote, regardless of region or other circumstances.”
Coverage of Association for Molecular Pathology v. Myriad Genetics, Inc., in which the Court is considering whether human genes are patentable, includes Bloomberg Law’s backgrounder on the case by Tony Dutra and W. Randy Kubetin, Tony Dutra’s overview of the parties’ positions, and his detailed report on the oral argument.
