Sri Srinivasan selected as Political Deputy to Solicitor General

Today, Solicitor General Don Verrilli has announced that Sri Srinivasan will be filling the position of Deputy Solicitor General left vacant by Neal Katyal, who served as Acting Solicitor General in the wake of Elena Kagan’s nomination to the Supreme Court. The so-called “political deputy†slot is effectively a political appointment that turns over with changes in administration, distinguishing it from the other deputy positions which are held by career civil servants.Â
Until his return to government, Srinivasan was the chair of O’Melveny & Myers’ appellate and Supreme Court practice. He was formerly an Assistant Solicitor General and, before that, a Bristow Fellow in the office. He is a graduate of Stanford Law School and a former Justice O’Connor clerk.
