Thursday round-up

With no arguments or conferences scheduled until mid-February, all is quiet at the Court.

Briefly:

  • Happy birthday to Chief Justice John Roberts, who is fifty-six today.
  • CJLF’s Crime & Consequences blog features a table of this Term’s “criminal and related cases.” Cases are organized into four categories: “Investigation and Evidence,” “Review of State Criminal Cases,” “Civil Cases Affecting Law Enforcement,” and “Federal Criminal Law and Procedure Issues.”
  • On Wednesday, President Obama nominated U.S. District Judge Henry Floyd to serve on the Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. At The BLT, David Ingram notes that Judge Floyd played an important role in Rumsfeld v. Padilla, a 2004 Supreme Court case brought by a U.S. citizen who was detained as an “enemy combatant.”
