Wednesday round-up
Briefly:
- At E&E News, Ellen Gilmer reports that a California fishing group has filed a petition in the Supreme Court asking the justices to overturn a lower court decision regarding the Clean Water Act “in a closely watched debate over states’ role in water permitting for dams, pipelines and other projects.”
- At CNBC News, Tucker Higgins discusses Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s appearance at the University at Buffalo on Monday amid the “public concern” about her health, as “the Supreme Court is expected to weigh in on some of the nation’s most divisive issues” in the coming years.
- At the Los Angeles Times, David Savage suggests that the Supreme Court may grapple with the Electoral College this term, as two groups have promised to appeal a decision asking whether Colorado can “require [its] appointed electors to cast ballots for the candidate favored by a majority of the state’s voters,” or whether “electors may instead choose whomever they wish.”
- The National Federation of Independent Business has asked the Supreme Court to weigh in on state taxation issues, such as whether states can assess “taxes on income from individuals living out-of-state” and whether “individuals or businesses should be liable for taxes in a state for which they neither live nor do business.”
