Online symposium announcement: Shelby County v. Holder

On February 27, the Court will hear oral arguments in Shelby County v. Holder.  At issue in the case is a challenge to the constitutionality of Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which requires states and local governments with a history of racial bias at the polls from making any changes to their election laws or procedures without preapproval from either a special federal court in Washington or the Department of Justice.  Beginning on Monday, the blog will host an online symposium to discuss how the Court should rule, and why, in Shelby County.

Tomorrow Lyle Denniston will have a “Made simple” post to introduce the case. A list of the contributors to the symposium is below the jump.
