In the first argument of the day, Martel v. Clair, the Court will consider the circumstances in which a state prisoner can obtain a new court-appointed lawyer in his federal habeas proceeding. Edward Hartnett previewed the case of us.
In Williams v. Illinois, the Court will return once again to the Confrontation Clause. At issue in the case is whether the Clause is violated by a state evidentiary rule allowing an expert witness to testify about a crime lab report when the lab analyst does not appear. Tom Goldstein previewed the case.
