This week on the Wiki

The Court wrapped up its Term this week by handing down four high-profile and eagerly anticipated opinions, and we have updated the case pages for those cases on our sister site, SCOTUSwiki, to reflect the new rulings. The case page for McDonald v. City of Chicago, the Second Amendment case, now includes a link to the Court’s opinion as well as commentary by SCOTUSblog’s Lyle Denniston, while we have updated the case page for Christian Legal Society v. Martinez, a challenge to the policy used by UC-Hastings to provide student organizations with funding, to include the opinion and additional commentary written by Lyle. Meanwhile, we have also updated the case page for the patent-law blockbuster Bilski v. Kappos to include Monday’s ruling and commentary by SCOTUSblog’s Tom Goldstein; the case page for Free Enterprise Fund v. PCAOB, which addressed the Sarbanes-Oxley Act’s consistency with separation-of-powers principles, now links to the decision and features an analysis by Kevin Russell of Howe & Russell.
Also on Monday, the Court handed down an orders list which included six new cert. grants, and as a result we have added six new cases to our OT10 index: Chamber of Commerce v. Candelaria, Janus Capital Group v. First Derivative Traders, Henderson v. Shinseki, Milner v. Department of the Navy, Amara v. Cigna Corp., and Pepper v. United States. We have also created a new case page for Tuesday’s granted case, Thompson v. North American Stainless. Also on Tuesday, the Court granted, vacated and remanded one case – Sears v. Upton – and we have added that opinion to our OT09 index.
Also this week, we have updated several case pages to include newly filed briefs. The case page for Los Angeles County v. Humphries now includes a link to the respondents’ brief, and we have updated the case page for Belleque v. Moore to include the petitioner’s opening brief. In addition, the case page for Flores-Villar v. United States now includes links to a number of new amicus briefs, and the page for Montana v. Wyoming and North Dakota now includes links to the brief for the first interim report of the Special Master, as well as the United States’ amicus brief.
Because much attention this week also focused on Elena Kagan’s confirmation hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee, we have continued to update our index of coverage on the Kagan nomination to include new reporting and commentary.
