The past week on the Wiki

Tracking the recent fast pace of the Court, SCOTUSwiki, our companion site, was substantially updated over the past week.

To begin, we added a new feature on the Wiki to keep it closely connected with the blog: whenever we update a case page with writing originally published on the blog, we are including with it a link to its original blog post.

Within the past two weeks, the Court decided five argued cases, and we have accordingly updated the case pages of Smith v. Spisak, NRG Power Marketing v. Maine Public Utilities Commission, Wood v. Allen, South Carolina v. North Carolina, and Kucana v. Holder with links to those opinions.  We’ve also added analysis of those opinions to the Smith, NRG Power Marketing, and Kucana pages.

The first case the Court granted in 2010, Dolan v. United States, now has a new page on the Wiki with links to its docket page and its certiorari-stage briefs. We have created five more new pages with the same information for the cases granted starting last Friday, Krupski v. Crociere, Hardt v. Reliance Standard Life Insurance Co., Monsanto Company v. Geertson Seed Farms, Rent-A-Center v. Jackson, and Doe v. Reed.

Because the Court heard six cases argued last week, we have updated the Wiki to include analysis of each case published on the blog both before and after each argument, as well as links to the argument transcripts.  On the pages for Briscoe v. Virginia and American Needle v. NFL, we have provided commentary on the briefs and arguments in the cases by our reporter Lyle Denniston. On the Alabama v. North Carolina page, we have added a preview of the case and analysis of oral argument by Josh Friedman of Akin Gump. And the page for United States v. Comstock now includes coverage by Howe & Russell’s Anna Christensen, while the Abbott v. Abbott page includes analysis of the briefs by Jonathan Eisenman of Akin Gump and my argument recap. For Jerman v. Carlisle, we have added an argument preview and recap by Matt Sundquist of SCOTUSblog.  Argument previews are now also up on the pages for the cases argued this week, Mac’s Shell Service, Inc. v. Shell Oil Products Co., Granite Rock Co. v. International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Berghuis v. Smith, and Conkright v. Frommert.

When new merits briefs are filed, we add links to them on the Wiki as soon as they become available. On Friday, we added the brief filed by the City of Chicago in the high-profile gun rights case McDonald v. City of Chicago.  Earlier last week, we also added links to the respondents’ briefs on the case pages for Renico v. Lett and Barber v. Thomas. The United States v. O’Brien and Astrue v. Ratliff pages now link to the petitioners’ briefs.   Additionally, we have also provided links to new amicus briefs on the pages for Berghuis v. Smith, Holder v. Humanitarian Law Project, McDonald v. City of Chicago, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha v. Regal-Beliot Corp., Magwood v. Culliver, Levin v. Commerce Energy, Inc., and Holland v. Florida.

Finally, as always, we have updated the Wiki to reflect current media and blog coverage of each case on the Supreme Court’s docket this Term. You can check this up-to-date coverage by navigating to the “Links and Further Information” section on the Wiki case pages. On the American Needle case page, we have just linked to two law review articles on the case by Professor Marc Edelman and our own podcasts with counsel on both sides.
