Today at the Court
on Dec 1, 2009 at 9:00 am
The Court will hear oral arguments in two cases:
At 10 a.m., Milavetz, Gallop & Milavetz v. United States and United States v. Milavetz, Gallop, & Milavetz (08-1119; 08-1225), which were consolidated for argument. At issue is whether Congress has the power to bar attorneys from advising debtors to take on more debt before filing for bankruptcy. Keisha Stanford, a Stanford Law School student, previewed the case earlier on SCOTUSblog.
At 11 a.m., United Student Aid Funds, Inc. v. Espinosa (08-1134), which challenges the standard for forgiving student loan debt in bankruptcy proceedings. Last week Bryan Henderson of Stanford Law School discussed the arguments in the case for SCOTUSblog.

No non-capital orders are expected today; we will report on any promptly should they be announced.
