A flurry of stories and commentary followed the news yesterday that Solicitor General Paul Clement did indeed file a brief in support of the businesses in the upcoming Stoneridge v. Scientific-Atlanta case. Kara Scannell writes this article on the news for the Wall Street Journal. The headline for the Washington Post’s story reads “In High Court Filing, It’s U.S. vs. Investors,” and staff writer Carrie Johnson suggests in it that the Solicitor General’s filing “mostly adopted concerns” articulated by President Bush, Treasury Secretary Paulson and major trade groups. Ashby Jones’ post on the Wall Street Journal blog yesterday discusses another brief filed arguing “against a recognition of ‘scheme liability.'”
Rick Hasen, at his Election Law blog, covers a California case that, according to an LA Daily Journal report, “could affect local elections throughout California.” Rick also links to his earlier coverage of the case.
According to David Lightman of the Hartford Courant, a nationwide Quinnipiac Polling Institute survey finds that Americans “generally dislike Congress” but have “much warmer feelings toward the U.S. Supreme Court.”
