Briefs in Monday’s CVSGs

On Monday, the Supreme Court called for the views of the Solicitor General in four matters: 05-1323, UGI Utilities v. Consolidated Edison of New York (regarding the recovery of cleanup costs under CERCLA); 05-1448, Beck v. Pace International Union (whether a pension plan sponsor’s decision to terminate a plan by purchasing an annuity is a plan sponsor decision not subject to ERISA’s fiduciary obligations); 05-1645/06-11, Wallace v. Calogero/Leclerc v. Webb (whether foreign nationals who have been admitted to the U.S. temporarily may obtain licenses to practice law while here); and 06-134, Permanent Mission of India v. New York (whether New York City may assess taxes on foreign embassy property used as residences for diplomats).
