Many major news outlets today released their end-of-term analyses and predictions for what will happen when the Court embarks upon a new term in October.
Linda Greenhouse of the New York Times has her take on what happened this term, entitled “Roberts Is at Court’s Helm, but He Isn’t Yet in Control,†here.
The Washington Post’s Charles Lane focuses on the role of Justice Kennedy in his end-of-term wrap-up, and it can be found here.
Dahlia Lithwick of Slate has a few thoughts on the tactics that everyone – from Supreme Court advocates to the other Justices – is using to attempt to capture the vote of Justice Kennedy; the article can be read here.
With even more along those same lines, the Los Angeles Times has an article with the headline “Justice Kennedy Makes the Calls on Roberts Supreme Court.†It can be found here.
This weekend’s Wall Street Journal contains a few thoughts (here) on how well Chief Justice Roberts is achieving his stated goal of increasing the level of consensus on the Court.
The major outlets are also running a few more stories on the effects of the Hamdan ruling. The L.A. Times and the Wall Street Journal both carry stories about how the decision will affect the mid-term elections this fall. The L.A. Times’s take is here, and the Journal’s story is here.
Finally, the New York Times’s “Week in Review†section contains a piece (here) regarding the ways in which Thursday’s opinions in Hamdan show that the Justices have tried to add their own voices to the dialogue over the War on Terror.
