OYEZ update

We asked Jerry Goldman, who runs the Oyez project, to give us some details on the new materials they’ve posted and their new technology. Here is what he wrote back.

The OYEZ Project has just released the 2004 Term SCOTUS audio in mp3 format for download. Highlights will be found at www.oyez.org/podcast where you can stream and sample before downloading. The downloads include the official transcripts under the ‘lyrics’ tag which is now accessible through iTunes (Get Info…>lyrics). If you have a newer model iPod, you can view the lyrics while listening to the arguments. During playback on an iPod Nano, for example, you would click to rotate through volume, time location, cover art, and transcript. When you get to the transcript, simply scroll along so that the text matches the audio.

We are experimenting with some new tools to enable annotation of audio and transcript simultaneously. This should improve the utility of the arguments for research and other purposes.

Opinion announcements and all arguments will be found in the resources directory associated with every 2004 Term case. Within OYEZ, you can search by docket number or party name to find the case and the resources directory.
