State of the Term

on Jun 7, 2005 at 11:19 am
The Court has decided 52 cases after argument, with 23 remaining.
The October and November sittings are completed.
Only Miller-El remains from December, with (as Marty as noted) Justice Souter likely writing the opinion, which presumably would be good news for Miller-El.
From January, all that remains is Rompilla v. Beard (the life without parole instruction case).
The Court has decided four of ten February cases, three of nine March cases, and one of eleven April cases.
For next Term, the Court has granted in cert. in 25 cases. The Justices need seven more grants to fill their December calendar before leaving for the summer recess. After the jump, I list the seven cases that I think are the most likely. That said, I expect that the Court will grant more than seven.
