Wednesday round-up
on Jun 15, 2016 at 7:07 am
Coverage of Monday’s orders and opinions continues. David Savage of the Los Angeles Times covers the Court’s denial of review in the challenge by American Samoans seeking birthright citizenship, while Sam Hananel of the Associated Press covers the Court’s ruling in the Puerto Rico debt crisis case.
Briefly:
- In an op-ed for TribLive, student Elsa Spear weighs in on the Court’s decision in Zubik v. Burwell, interpreting it as a signal that the Court “believes, like the plaintiffs in the case, that there is a way to advance the government’s stated interest while protecting the right of religious organizations to live out their faith.”
- At ACSblog, Ronald Sullivan urges the Court to grant review in the case of David Brown, a Louisiana death-row inmate, arguing that only the Court “can now correct matters and give the state’s prosecutors and courts direction on the due process rights of defendants.”
- A podcast at The Citizen’s Guide to the Supreme Court discusses the Court’s recent decisions in Puerto Rico v. Sanchez Valle, Dietz v. Bouldin, and Williams v. Pennsylvania.
