Tuesday round-up

Yesterday the Court granted an application by former Virginia governor Bob McDonnell to stay out of prison until the Court rules on his appeal.  Lyle Denniston covered the order for this blog, with other coverage coming from Richard Wolf of USA Today.

The Court also denied an application from a Kentucky county clerk, who had asked the Justices to stay a federal district judge’s ruling ordering her to issue marriage licenses to both same- and opposite-sex couples.  Kim Davis had argued that doing so for same-sex couples would violate her religious beliefs.  Lyle Denniston covered the order for this blog, with other coverage coming from Claire Galofaro of the Associated Press (via ABC News). Howard Wasserman weighs in on the background of the case and plaintiff at PrawfsBlawg.

Briefly:

  • In the New Republic, Brian Beutler has the story of how a small group of law professors is seeking to persuade the Court that “the whole New Deal project was a big, unconstitutional error.”

If you have or know of a recent (published in the last two or three days) article, post, or op-ed relating to the Court that you’d like us to consider for inclusion in the round-up, please send it to roundup [at] scotusblog.com.
